I Am Not the World's Oldest Blogger

You probably all knew about this guy before I did, but, for me, it is a very consoling discovery. Good ol' Don is the world's oldest blogger. Will I blog on to my nineties? Will Jeffrey? All I can say is that I just bought my first pair of Converse All Stars, clear though disturbing proof, if any were needed, that I am not dead yet.

Bet your daughter picked 'em out, hey?

Although my kids won't allow me to wear anything resembling what they wear. My daughter (17) will say, "Oh, God, Mom -- stop trying to look *young*." I'm 46, but these teenagers have a way of making me feel as old as the 90-year-old blogger...Which reminds me: How old *are* you, Bryan? I would guess 49 or 50.

55, Susan. And no my daughter did not pick them out. I am affronted by the suggestion. She is a conservative child and I was there in the sixties.

Actually I am the world's oldest blogger. I was told by the Inner Minx that I am 150. (She subsequently clarified that she meant "reading age".)

Bryan, the 50s is the best decade of life, yes? Maturity of viewpoint, ability to prioritise, appreciation of the good things while able to rigorously tune out the cancaphony of the likes of Jeffrey A......and so it goes on.

Immortal, I prefer your Waaaaah! to your Geeeeez! but both are good. I'm not trying to look young, I'm trying to look, I dunno, right.
Maxine, best decade? Hmmmmm. Maturity of viewpoint? Not yet, alas, haven't managed to suppress my inner whatever the male of minx is.

Andrew's old friend, Nietzsche, put it nicely: Mature manhood means to have rediscovered the seriousness one had as a child at play. I like that.

Bryan, a glance at my profile will reveal that I'm the oldest blogger.

Yes, James, you have a case. But does not Don claim to be 92 or thereabouts? Anyway, I admire you energy and persistence. Where are you, as a matter of interest?

Ah but Bryan, the only reason I'm 90 is that I'm a dragon and when I put in 102 years old, Blogger put 'rabbit' and I am no rabbit. So, regrettably, I had to drop back to a piddling 90. Hope that clears it all up. As for where I am, apart from away with the fairies, I'm in a former Soviet republic. Interestingly, Ellee Seymour has just asked the same but in much greater detail.

The male version of a minx is a stud. How unfair is that?

Some years ago I interviewed the American composer Lou Harrison. He had recently turned 75 and I had recently passed 50. He told me that the 50s were the best decade of your life: "You know how to do what you want to do and you still have the strength to do it. After 65 you start falling apart." Feeling the way I do today, he defintely seems to have been right on the last point

Well, Bryan, I was only trying to make the likes of you and me feel a bit better at our advancing years....

But all these nonogerians, gives me, a mere stripling, hope.

Yes, Susan, extremely unfair. I must tell Minx this about Confucious (her hubby -- who now I think about it from his picture must surely be the world's oldest blogger -- he looks about 3,000 -- BTW Minx'a blog is at innerminx.blogspot.com--can't remember Confucious's but he is in her blogroll).
