Trying, very
So the Brown apotheosis has come to pass, and darkness covers the land. 'I will try my utmost,' he proclaims, quoting his old school motto. Leaving aside the fact that there's something creepy about a man who remembers his school motto, let alone takes it seriously, don't you just want to shout at him - No,Gordon! Please don't do that... The less you try, the better it will be. Relax, delegate, smell the roses, get plenty of sleep. Consider, if you will, the domestic regimen of President Calvin Coolidge, as described here in a fine, late Letter From America by Alistair Cooke. Between 11 and 15 hours of sleep a day 'on principle' - that's the way to do it. Also well worth noting are Lyndon Johnson's words about judging an incoming leader...
Meanwhile, perhaps it's time for a Blog Motto. Yesterday's 'Regressive Dissent' is a good basis - how about 'Backward, Downward and All Over the Place'? All suggestions welcome(ish)...

Was Mr Brown not paying attention when Master Yoda explained to young Skywalker "No, try not! Do or do not. There is no try."
How about "All the dystopian conservatism you'd expect from the old media elite, now futilely packaged for the Web 2.0, except not as jerky as Andrew Keen."

Perhaps, Duck, a trifle deficient in pithiness to serve as a motto.

I thought the blog's motto was ''what if''. yes, I'm one of those creeps who remembers their school motto and it was one of the few things worth remembering from that place.

As far as I remember, my old school was motto-free - I have searched its very fine website in vain...
