Somebody says to me- 'Television distracts you from what you're not doing; radio distracts you from what you are doing.' This sound good but is it right?
It does sound good, but I think I would have put it the other way about.
You tend to put the radio on when you're trying to do something, and it sometimes distracts, whereas television lends itself better to accompanying the vegetative state.
If you can accept that in a virtual world, we will long for reality even more, radio, tuned to the right non-musical station, does have that down-home analogue ability to draw you in and, if the content is good, get it's leg across and seduce you, whilst at the same time liberating your imagination. The actual sound of radio seems less combative than TV too, and certainly less likely to be trying to sell you something, trying to be in your face at every opportunity. I agree with Brit that TV is a better companion for the 'vegetative state' because, if you feel a maris piper moment coming on, and the big hand is on six, an hour of Loose Women will deepen the coma every time.
A blog about, among other things, imaginary ideas - What ifs? and Imagine thats. What if photographs looked nothing like what we see with our eyes? Imagine that the Berlin Wall had never come down. What if we were the punchline of an interminable joke? All contributions welcome.

Radio dulls the pain of driving. Television is the modern equivalent of the stocks. Mime the pelting of veg.

Yeah, I'm not snobbish about TV though. An awful lot of the interesting things I've learnt and great entertainment I've had has come from TV.
Sure most TV is rubbish, but so are most books.
