Miliband's Generalissimo
I am intrigued by David Miliband's argument for Blair's presidency of the EU. He has a motorcade factor apparently. I won't be given the chance to vote for or against Blair any more than I was given the chance to vote against Brown. Now - call me anxiety-prone - I do find the idea of unelected presidents in motorcades somewhat alarming. It has - how shall I put it? - bad associations. Perhaps, pursuing the boy David's logic, Blair should also wear a white uniform covered in gold braid, medals and a sash. An enormous generalissimo's cap with a gigantic badge involving flames and eagles would be good. I'm sorry I'll miss that great spectacle. I shall, of course, have been 'disappeared', having been rounded up, kept in the wonderful new Olympic Stadium for three weeks and then dropped from a helicopter into the Channel. Good times.

Unelected? What do you mean unelected? Europe, in the shape of 27 men and women will elect him. What could be more democratic.
Not sure about white for Blair, I see him as more of a Prussian Blue kind of guy.

Yes, a Zil limo came to mind. Surely these people are not that young that they cannot make the European connection with the term Motorcade that fits somewhere between Idi Amin and Uri Andropov and about as far away from POTUS as you can get.

That's right. The future will be something between a totalitarian regime and an ITV game show.

Yes, TB could hold Presidential hair-drying contests with the tousled Colonel Gaddafi, his old mate.

Hadn't noticed you'd restarted until just now, when I read this. What a place to come in. Can I be dropped from the same helicopter?
So glad the ear's back to normal.

Fear not, Monbiot plans to have him arrested. As long as he does so before Gill shoots him just to see what it's like to kill a baboon.

There is a precedent here for the appointment of Tone as El Presidente, the Russians had Putin vote himself in and the there are marked similarities between the pair of them, both of them being wannabe dictators with blood on their hands. Although it is doubtfull that Putin's wife is as greedy as Blair's, there again she wouldn't be, she ain't a lawyer.

Tone is up for President of the European Council, not of the EU. But don't let that stop you from waving your rolled up copies of the Daily Mail at him!

In other words John M, President of the highest political body in the EU. Barroso may run the Commission, but it's direction will be led by the council and you've got to believe that Blair would be in it for the power and the glory and not for the joy of being a figurehead.

I don't know, given Tonys' religious convictions, wouldn't it be great to see him dressed completely in white, with a pointy hat, waving from a variation of the "popemobile", personally I can't wait.
Either that or arrest the bugger for his duplicity while in office.
